Clockwork Pig w/ Drum
WIND-UP PIG PLAYING DRUM. Schuco 980/2 Drumming Pig. Pale pink felt body, head and arms. Pig has tongue sticking out and rosy cheeks. He is wearing a white cap and blue overalls and is carrying a tinplate drum w/ red design on sides. Keyhole in back for wind-up key. He is holding a drumstick in either hand, and when wound he raises his arms up and down to bang on the drum. Part of a Walt Disney Three Little Pigs set. Manufactured by Schuco. Made in Germany, c. 1934.
Based on Disney’s 1933 Silly Symphony animated short film “Three Little Pigs”. In 1934, Schuco struck a licensing deal with Disney, which allowed them to design toys in the likeness of the characters in the film.
